A project signing ceremony in Chengdu Hi-tech Zone (CDHT) was held on November 19th. Ten deals with a total investment value of RMB 7.75 billion were sealed. Of these, Trends Group, MKTECH, Chengdu Jetta and Xieli Pharmaceutical are going to invest in Singapore-Sichuan Hi-Tech Innovation Park (SSCIP). Most of the projects signed are from the information technology and biomedical sciences sector, which are in line with SSCIP’s direction. These programs will catalyze the establishment of major industrial platforms in SSCIP, and also making CDHT an ideal hub for strategic emerging industries.
2015 was a fruitful year for SSCIP. SSCIP is now home to 16 enterprises with a total investment of RMB 19 billion. Among these enterprises, most will break ground early this year. In addition, LongFor Group won the bid for the first residential land in SSCIP at RMB 1 Billion.
Under the Spotlight: Bio-medicine Industry Ecosystem
Biomedical sciences industry has long been the main focus of SSCIP. Using Singapore’s Biopolis as a model, SSCIP endeavor to build 4 critical platforms by securing catalytic projects, and integrating local resources to form an international biomedical ecosystem. So far, SSCIP has secured in 5 bio-medicine projects, including Chipscreen, Good doctor, Haisco, Chengdu Jetta and Xieli Pharmaceutical. Chengdu Jetta is settling up a RMB 1.5 billion headquarters in SSCIP and its production base of aerosol and traditional Chinese medicine preparations in west park of CDHT. As the only Sichuan pharmaceutical company whose raw materials and final products are both certified by GMP, Sichuan Xieli Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. in plans to inject RMB 500 million for development of the R&D center and headquarter in SSCIP. In addition, the manufacturing base for autogiro and aeronautical facilities is planned to be set up in CDHT by Chengdu Lihang S&T Co., Ltd. with a total investment of RMB 550 million.
Further Consolidate the New-generation Information Technology Industry
The new generation information technology industry has always been strong in Chengdu and CDHT. So far, 5 enterprises in this sector have decided to invest in SSCIP, including OPPO, TRS, Migu Music, as well as Trends Group and MKTECH.
"Trends Group is destined to settle in Chengdu. We have faith in industry and talent resources.” said by Mr. Cui Junfeng, investment director of Trends Group. As the largest modern media in China, Trends has already identify the future of mobile internet, and has taken shares of the start-up enterprise in the Hi-tech Zone - MCI Co., Ltd. in 2012 to extend its digital publishing business. Combining its rich experience in digital publishing and Chengdu's favorable condition, Trends has decided to invest no less than RMB 600 million in setting up a regional headquarter in CDHT with its affiliated company StarShow Co., Ltd. The project integrates media, health, fashion e-commerce and comprehensive service platform, independent designers, film and television production, and many other areas.
The Zhuhai-based MKTECH has visited many places in China, and Chengdu has become their eventual choice for investment. Mr. Miu Keliang, the CEO of MKTECH shared that as one of the largest domestic exporters of digital home intelligent terminal products and total solution, MKTECH was listed on NEEQ on November 2014. Partnering with ZTE, Beijing Chstar, Alibaba, and DrPeng, MKTECH boasted the operational revenue of over RMB 1.25 billion in 2014, and several production bases capable of manufacturing RMB 20 million worth of products per year.
It is reported that MKTECH has decided to invest no less than RMB 500 million in its western regional headquarter and R&D Center in CDHT for the integrated development of digital video products, and the design, R&D, sale, and services related to smart lifestyle. This program will be initiated by the end of March 2016, and completed by 2018.
CDHT was awarded the 1st national demonstration zone for independent innovation with the mission of building "an innovation-driven driving area, a hub for high-end industries, a demonstration zone open for innovation, and a new growth pole in Western China". Currently, CDHT attached equal importance to supporting both independent innovation for small companies and investment promotion for larger established ones. Through accelerating the planning and construction of SSCIP, and promoting robust development of innovative clusters, CDHT aims to attract 20,000 companies with a total output of 1.5 trillion and three-five 100 billion industrial clusters by 2025.
