Grand opening of the merlion sculpture

On the morning of September 13, 2018, Mr. Ng Chee Meng, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), Mr. Steven Pang, Consul-General of Singapore Consulate-General in Chengdu, Ms Eunice KOH, Assistant Chief Executive Officer of Enterprise Singapore, Mr. Kelvin Teo, the CEO of Singapore Sembcorp Development Co., Ltd. and the chairman of Sino-Singapore (Chengdu) Innovation Park Development Co., Ltd. and Mr. Ong Beng Lee, Senior Vice President and Head Group Strategic Relations of Ascendas-Singbridge Pte Ltd, jointly unveiled the sculpture of the Merlion on the shore of the lake of the Xinchuan Heartbeat Central Park. The Merlion is the national symbol of Singapore. The appearance of the Merlion in SSCIP symbolizes the cooperation between Sichuan and Singapore and SSCIP has taken it to the next level.

This merlion sculpture is a slightly smaller copy of the merlion at the Merlion Park in Singapore. Sculpted from of a white granite, the main body is 7 meters high. It is installed with colorful lights and shining brightly at night. Facing the Mirror Lake, the merlion spouts water from its mouth with a range between 16 and 22 meters, to welcome all visitors to SSCIP.
