New height of Sino-Singapore innovation cooperation - Singapore Innovation Center officially unveiled

On September 14, 2018, the 19th meeting of the Singapore-Sichuan Trade and Investment Committee was held in Chengdu. Yin Li, deputy secretary of the provincial party committee and Sichuan province governor, and Ng Chee Meng, the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office and Secretary-General of the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) attended the meeting and jointly unveiled the “Singapore Innovation Center” in SSCIP.

In his speech, Governor Yin Li said that Sichuan and Singapore have enjoyed good economic relations for a long time. In recent years, cooperation in various fields has continued to be deepened and the prospects for future cooperation are exciting. He addressed that the two sides should seize the opportunity of the "Belt and Road" construction in accordance with the spirit of the leadership talks of the two countries to further consolidate the existing cooperation achievements of Sichuan and Singapore and to jointly promote the win-win cooperation to next level. Governor Yin particularly emphasized the need to build SSCIP into a "new business card" for deepening the bilateral cooperation, and promote companies from both sides to set their presence in SSCIP and collaborate on tech and innovation projects. 

Minister Ng Chee Meng said in his speech that he is very glad to have the opportunity to discuss the direction and vision of the cooperation between Singapore and Sichuan. He hopes that both sides jointly push the cooperation to a new level. Singapore hopes to continue to strengthen the cooperation with Sichuan in infrastructure construction, trade finance services, and foster Chinese enterprises to expand in countries along the Belt and Road trade routes. In particular, Singapore companies should seize new opportunities such as the construction of Chengdu Tianfu International Airport and the Sichuan Pilot Free Trade Zone, and promote the bilateral cooperation.

At the meeting, Chengdu High-tech Zone and Sino-Singapore (Chengdu) Innovation Park Development Co., Ltd. signed a project cooperation agreement to jointly launch the Singapore Innovation Center. The unveiling by two important government leaders marks the official launch of the Center and it will further promote more innovation and technical cooperation between Singapore and Sichuan.
