On August 31st, the construction of the Tianfu New Area Cultural Center kicked off in Singapore-Sichuan Hi-Tech Innovation Park (SSCIP), marking a new chapter in the development of SSCIP.
The Center, which consists of an arts performance center, an arts recreation center and an exhibition hall, will be opened to public in February 2018 and local citizens of Sichuan Province will be able indulge themselves in the beauty of arts.
Key Data
Floor area: 120 mu
Building area: nearly 100,000 m2
Location (marked in red in the picture): Connected by Hongxing Road South Extension, only 400m away from Guangdu Station of Metro Line 1, the Center lies at the heart of SSCIP, Right next to the SSCIP Heartbeat Central Park
Date of completion: The Center will be completed and put into operation before February 2018.
Appearance: Inventive Design Inspired by Sichuan Brocade
The Center houses three conical single properties with different sizes. The buildings perfectly embody rolls of unfolding Sichuan brocades. Tracing back to the history of the capital city, Sichuan brocade has won the name of “Jinguan City” for Chengdu, which explains why the concept was introduced. Liu Yi, the Chief Designer of the Center says, “Shapes are rotated and combined by means of symbolization, it is our belief that through this cutting-edge and strong spatial image, we are able to convey modern values to public.” Three properties, with curved cones at different heights and dimensions in shape, resembles symphonic notes which will compose a new chapter and further nurturing of Sichuan culture and arts.
Site selection for the arts performance center, the arts recreation center and the exhibition hall also entails originality. The Center is adjacent to the SSCIP Heartbeat Central Park, so the arts performance center and the arts recreation center, characterized by public engagement and openness are designated at the north of the site to promote the rich aesthetic environment jointly with Tianfu New Area Cultural Park. On the other hand, the exhibition hall is located at the southwest corner of the site to facilitate independent operation. Zhang Ruyi, head of Infrastructure Construction Office of Culture Department of Sichuan Province, indicates that the Center is a public cultural service open to everyone, so pedestrian areas are arranged between the three buildings, and an arts plaza is built in order to accommodate audiences in the arts performance center and arts recreation center. The distance between the Center and the exit of Guangdu Station of Metro Line 1 is just over 400m.
Interior: One-stop Service for Various Cultural Activities
Wang Qiong, Deputy Director of Culture Department of Sichuan Province, shared that among the three main buildings, the arts performance center is equipped with a 1,400-seat grand theater, an 800-seat music hall and a 400-seat operatic arts hall.
Grand Theater: its interior adopts European classic U-shape layout with traditional and modern features, showing an elegant and magnificent style.
Music Hall: its interior embodies countryside terrace design, showing fresh and pleasant style.
Operatic Arts Hall: it will be mainly used for Chinese traditional operas and folk performance arts, so its interior style highlights the elements of traditional national culture, distinguishing itself from other halls.
The arts recreation center consists of an indoor cultural activity center and an arts square. -1F and 4F of the recreation center are equipped with digital film hall, lobby and arts creation center, exhibition hall, digital cultural hall and performance hall. The arts square has about 2,300 fixed seats. The exhibition hall for art creation and research in the southwest of the site consists of exhibition gallery and research hall, lecture hall, professional studio and seminar room.
Sichuan province is rich in public cultural service offerings. Art Gallery of Sichuan Province, New Sichuan Provincial Library, Sichuan Jincheng Palace of Fine Arts, and Grand Theatre of Sichuan Province under construction are no more than hundreds of meters away from Tianfu Square. However, it is the first time that we integrate and merge arts professional theaters with sites for amateur arts lovers. In the Center, the public can not only indulge themselves with fascinating arts, but can also enjoy hand-on experiences in creating their own pieces of art works, which can truly facilitate interactions between professionals and the public.
