On September 14, Peng Qinghua, secretary of Sichuan provincial party committee, and Yin Li, deputy secretary of Sichuan provincial party committee and governor met with Ng Chee Meng, Minister in the Prime Minister's Office and his entourage in Chengdu. The two sides exchanged ideas on deepening cooperation in various fields and jointly promoting the construction of the "Southbound Passage" between China and Singapore.
Peng Qinghua said that Sichuan is China's most populous province and strong in economic growth with rich resource. It is also an important node in the construction of the “Belt and Road”. At present, Sichuan is implementing a comprehensive open cooperation strategy, especially highlighting the southward opening up, creating a passage to sea in Sichuan, and further exploring emerging international markets such as South Asia and Southeast Asia. It is hoped that Singapore and Sichuan will establish a good foundation for cooperation, give full play to the role of the Singapore-Sichuan trade and investment cooperation mechanism, and work together with the provinces along the route to promote the construction of the Sino-Singapore “Southbound Passage”, continuously improve the construction level of SSCIP, and further strengthen the cooperation in education, culture and tourism fields to bring more benefits to the people of the two places.
Ng Chee Meng congratulated Sichuan on its achievements in economic and social development in recent years. He said that in recent years, Singapore has actively participated in the construction of the “Belt and Road”. The relations between the two countries have continued to develop steadily, and the depth and breadth of exchanges and cooperation with Sichuan have continued to expand. Singapore is willing to take the Singapore-Sichuan trade and investment cooperation mechanism as a link, continuously strengthen economic and trade investment cooperation, social and cultural exchanges at various levels, and solidly promote the construction of major projects such as the “Southward Passage” and SSCIP to achieve more pragmatic results.
